Sometimes, 250,000 words in the English language simply isn’t enough. I know I’d be mighty ticked if I was competing in a spelling bee that went over 60 rounds, only to result in a tied score. But for some reason, the organizers of this one couldn’t manage to come up with one more single W-O-R-D. They were worried that randomly pulling words from the dictionary would result in one of the contestants receiving a word that could be deemed “too easy”, so they decided that a tie made for the better outcome.
In the game of life, you win some and you lose some. Why do so many people who purport to believe in the proper education of our youth always seem to want to err in the favor of “everybody gets a medal”?
