You know it’s bad when a lawyer, an attorney general no less, lawyers up. And you know it’s even worse in a state where the governor is a Republican.
Last week news broke that Kathleen Kane, Pennsylvania’s Democrat Attorney General, allegedly ended a sting operation that netted several Philly democrats who took bribes. Prosecutors began this sting in 2010 when Republican Tom Corbett was attorney general. After Democrat Kathleen G. Kane took office in 2013, she shut the investigation down. As a longtime resident of PA, finding out Philly politicians got busted taking bribes isn’t news. However, finding out PA’s top cop slammed shut an investigation that caught democrats–black democrats nonetheless taking money and jewelry in exchange for their vote against voter ID–it makes me wonder who this person is and how far down the rabbit hole her connections go.
Dubbed as the new Democrat ‘It Girl’, Kathleen Kane, Pennsylvania’s Progressive Democrat DA, is the wife of a wealthy Scranton businessman and was unknown and a generally unremarkable Lackawanna County assistant district attorney. Last year she ran for attorney general and had the fortuitous position of running against a union-endorsed and better-known former Congressman Patrick Murphy—a man who endorsed Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton. And of course Bill Clinton was more than happy to endorse her. After all, Ms Kane had worked on Hillary’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Ms. Kane first got on my radar by ending the loophole allowing PA gun owners to use a non-resident concealed carry permit from FL. Kane used executive power to further her gun control agenda, usurping legislative action where the power to make laws in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania resides. Now it appears she is using her office to close investigations and threatens to sue the Philadelphia Inquirer for exposing her willingness to protect Democrats, instead of serving Pennsylvanians by upholding and faithfully executing the law. And to add insult to injury, she is crying racism to cover her lack of fortitude in upholding her oath as PA’s top cop in prosecuting crime to protect all Pennsylvanians. It’s bad enough she refused to uphold DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) in PA, much to the displeasure of a PA Senator who brought up impeachment charges against her.
The law applies to all of us. For Kane to act as if the law only applies to a select few is elitism on one level and sub-human on another. In a nation of laws, not men, this is beyond unacceptable. Whether the offender is Republican or Democrat, it is the Attorney General’s sworn duty to uphold the law of the land–not to save the face of her political party.
Something tells me we aren’t at the bottom of the Kathleen Kane rabbit hole just yet.
