Jeopardy! Contestant Makes History With Awesome Slam on Trebek

Oh, snap!

As a loyal watcher of the Wheel of Fortune/Jeopardy! one-two punch most weeknights, I can say with certainty that even after all these years, I still can’t stand Alex Trebek (though I think Pat Sajak is one cool cat). Trebek bugs me for the same reason that he bugs most people: he acts as if he knows the correct question to every answer, and is constantly condescending to his own contestants. You may have seen this moment from a few months back, when he made a blatantly racist comment to a black Jeopardy! player:

It’s a given that Alex is a jerk, but what I’ve always wondered is why no one ever attempts to put him in his place. That’s why it was so refreshing this week to see contestant Tom actually tell the host to his face that his fancy suit probably came from a sweat-shop. Of course, Trebek followed that up with a smarmy “threat” of sorts, but it was a great moment nonetheless. I’m actually surprised the producers left it in the broadcast. Maybe they can’t stand him either.
