CNN reported Thursday that at least 40 U.S. veterans have died while waiting for appointments on a “secret list” at a Phoenix Arizona Veterans Affairs hospital. The report said that there’s reason to suspect that top management including the head of the Arizona VA system orchestrated the plan.
The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources.
Apparently, the “secret list” was established to make it appear as though the Arizona VA had dealt with its extraordinary long wait times. But a CNN investigation revealed that that was not the case.
Congress has now ordered all records in Phoenix, secret or not, be preserved.
