That Awkward Moment When Obama Hyped the Car That Got People Killed


Remember that whole “Cash for Clunkers” debacle? Yep, that would be President Barack Obama in the video above, speaking at a GM plant back in September of 2009. He was touting the Chevy Cobalt as “one of GM’s most sought-after cars under that program.”

And of course, if you’ve been paying any attention, it’s the Chevy Cobalt that’s facing a massive recall right now over faulty ignition switches in five years worth of models. Put simply, the car that Obama was so excited about a few years ago has gotten dozens of people hurt, and in some cases, killed…which is why two and a half million of them have been recalled.

If you think I’m being a bit too tough on our prezzo, consider the fact that the Cobalt was widely seen as a lemon from the very start…yet Barry got behind it anyway.

But let’s cut the man a break here, because, despite this snafu, he’s been right about so many other things throughout the course of his presidency, no?
