In 2008, passionate Obama supporter Peggy Joseph became famous after she said that, if Obama got elected, “I won’t have to worry about puttin’ gas in my car, I won’t have to worry about payin’ my mortgage.”
But that was then. And nearly six years later, Joseph is singing an entirely new tune.
“Just like the Wizard of Oz, Obama has turned out to be nothing more than a man behind a curtain,” Joseph told documentary filmmaker Joel Gilbert.
“He was not who we thought or expected him to be.”
Peggy Joseph’s story is featured in Joel Gilbert’s new full-length documentary film, “There’s No Place Like Utopia.”
“Peggy reminded me,” Gilbert says, “of Dorothy from ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ who thought the magical wizard would solve all her problems.”
“Truth and honesty are important,” Joseph explained to Gilbert in the film. Obama “lied about everything,” she says.
She explained that her comments in 2008 were a result of her being swept up in the emotion of an Obama campaign rally. Joseph admits that she wasn’t thinking for herself.
Gilbert’s new documentary hits theaters later this year.
