If you’re still reeling from hearing the President of the United States declare that “we don’t have a strategy yet” for defeating ISIS, rest assured that your friendly neighborhood Congressman from Texas has come to the rescue. Here’s Louie Gohmert’s rather simple strategy: declare war against radical Islam.
Sure, it may seem basic…but it’s something Obama refuses to do. “He has never had a good strategy,” Gohmert told Neil Cavuto of Fox News. “He has consistently chosen, with whatever ridiculous advice he’s been getting, the side of the radical Islamist … I think a lot us would be willing to have a declaration of war against radical Islam, including al-Qaeda, ISIS, ISIL, all of these splinter groups, the ones in Libya. We could name them and I don’t think a lot of us would have a problem.”
After the president’s remarks on Thursday, a friend of mine posited the theory that perhaps Mr. Obama DOES have a strategy, and it involves a bit of misdirection by pretending like he doesn’t have one. I’m sure that’s wishful thinking for his supporters, but this Commander-in-Chief has unfortunately proven time and time again that he’s not very good at such manipulation. If he was, Vladimir Putin certainly wouldn’t be eating Obama’s lunch the way he is now. No, I take Barack at his word when he admits that he hasn’t got a strategy. After all, any president who actually bothers to think things through would never have walked out to the podium sporting that jarring tan suit.
All kidding aside, Team Obama rushed to clarify the “no strategy” gaffe last night. Here was the president’s mouthpiece, Josh Earnest, on CNN:
“When it comes to confronting ISIL, the president has been very clear for months about what our comprehensive strategy is,” Earnest insisted. He then proceeded to tick off a list of talking points that didn’t really explain how we’re going to go about decimating those thugs at all.
What an awful place we’ve gotten to. Everything is so bass-ackwards in America that we’re not even sure whether the leader of the country has a plan. Critics have assumed that he doesn’t have one, and then he admitted as much…and that was followed by his surrogates insisting that he didn’t actually mean what he said. Could this possibly be any more confusing?
I hate to say it, but maybe Obama IS better off staying on the golf course. Every time he opens his mouth, he seems to make things worse. Worse for himself, as well as everyone in the country. I’ve come to accept that BHO isn’t a guy who’s big on actual strategy when it comes to foreign affairs, but the fact that he now outwardly admits it shows what an empty vessel he truly is.
Meanwhile, if he would put even half the effort into crafting a real strategy against ISIS that he does in preparing for fundraisers, we’d be golden. I’m guessing he spent more time picking out the aforementioned tan suit on Thursday than he did actually discussing the lack of an ISIL plan with his advisers.
