Well, we knew it was only a matter of time before The Clintons were going to snap over the cavalcade of critical books that have been released about them throughout the past few weeks. Just as Hillary was gearing up to tour her flop of a memoir called “Hard Choices,” author Ed Klein released “Blood Feud,” which absolutely pummeled the former First Lady, both in the book’s content, as well as its sales. Then, there was Daniel Halper’s “Clinton, Inc.,” and of course Ronald Kessler’s “The First Family Detail” (you know, the one that gave us that delicious revelation about Bubba’s blonde bombshell mistress, code-named “Energizer“). That’s not even to mention Lucinda Franks’ “Timeless: Love, Morgenthau, and Me,” the book that quotes Hillary at one time blaming Bill’s sex addiction on abuse from his mother.
On Thursday, the Clinton family released a blunt statement about all of these provocative writings. Courtesy of Politico, here’s the key response:
“Their behavior should neither be allowed nor enabled, and legitimate media outlets who know with every fiber of their being that this is complete crap should know not to get down in the gutter with them and spread their lies. But if anyone isn’t sure, let’s strap all three to a polygraph machine on live TV and let the needle tell the truth.”
“Their behavior should neither be allowed nor enabled”? Wow, so now The Billary machine is targeting free speech. I can’t wait to see what this presidency is going to look like if that’s the tone they’re setting right now. If Hillary wants to try and shut down everyone who writes an ill word about her, good luck. Maybe she can hire Lois Lerner to help hunt down all of those Hillary haters. It may take two full terms.
The other amusing part of that official statement is that The Clintons are challenging their critics to take polygraphs. First of all, given impeachment and Benghazi, Bill and Hillary have already used up whatever moral authority they may have had to scold others about truth-telling. Secondly, as National Review points out, Hillary doesn’t believe in polygraphs. Remember when she said this about the rapist she defended in court?
“I had him take a polygraph, which he passed, which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs.”
Damn. I guess we won’t be strapping her husband to one anytime soon.
Incidentally, David Brock of Media Matters — who used to slam The Clintons back when he was a conservative — has been front and center these days in defending the former First Family. “Conservatives don’t buy books the way other people do,” says Brock. “I think they buy them as political statements or to see their own prejudices and fantasies in black and white.”
Well, if that’s the case and conservatives don’t buy books anyway…then what on earth are these people worried about?
Oh, that’s right. The truth stings.
