You don’t have to be a David Letterman fan to appreciate the heartfelt tribute he delivered to the late Robin Williams. Letterman happened to have been on vacation last week, so he hadn’t had the opportunity to talk about his relationship with Robin until now. And it was a much deeper relationship than you may have realized.
Williams appeared on Letterman’s show 50 times over the years, and Dave recalled when he first met him at The Comedy Store 38 years ago.
After sharing his personal memories of the perfomer, Letterman played a brief video montage of Robin’s many Late Show appearances (some would say too brief, but that’s beside the point).
“What I will add here is that, beyond being a very talented man and a good friend and a gentleman, I am sorry I, like everybody else, had no idea that the man was in pain and the man was suffering,” said Letterman to close out his eulogy.
