The Carney Gets Schooled by The Dark Kristol: There Will Be Boots

Sometimes when the heated political atmosphere permeating the news and blogosphere reaches a fever pitch, I like to just take my political hat off entirely and enjoy watching a train wreck on cable TV. It’s pretty obvious that CNN’s Jake Tapper has a twisted sense of humor. What else would possess him to put former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney in the same room with ultra-conservative Weekly Standard writer Bill Kristol, let alone have them seated directly next to each other?

This clip is rather interesting, because these two men are actually not yelling and screaming as you might have assumed. Yet you can still cut the tension with a knife, because they clearly can’t stand the sight of one another.

Carney, who is now officially on the payroll of CNN, was insisting that there will NOT be combat forces on the ground in Iraq as long as Barack Obama is still president. But that’s not how Kristol sees it, and he promised Jay that the Commander-in-Chief “is going to get dragged into eventually sending in the 20,000 troops or so that are needed to actually destroy ISIS.”

As I said in my preface, I don’t even want to debate the merits of this one. It’s simply fascinating watching these two quietly bicker, seeing as how they couldn’t possibly be further apart in their views. It would have been aces, however, if they had made a real wager on whether or not there will actually be boots on the ground. Perhaps Kristol could promise not to write about illegal immigration for an entire year if he lost the bet. Maybe Carney could put his Guided By Voices record collection on the line. The possibilities are endless.

Definitely an interesting choice of guests for Mr. Tapper. Who’s next, Charles Krauthammer versus Michael Moore?
