Earnest Goes to School…Thanks to ABC’s Jon Karl

If you were infuriated by President Obama’s 60 Minutes interview in which he blamed James Clapper and other members of the intelligence community for underestimating the threat of ISIS, well…you’ll be equally infuriated by White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest’s spin from the briefing room on Monday. The difference here is that the administration is finally being called out on the nonsense.

Jon Karl of ABC News did everything that Steve Kroft of CBS News failed to do: mainly, declare shenanigans on this unfortunate (and typical) Obama blame game. “This is one of your key people on Iraq who was raising this alarm in November of last year,” said Karl, referring to former National Security Council adviser Brett McGurk. “Did this message get to the president? Did he believe it? Did he not hear it? What happened?

Karl went on to reintroduce Earnest to Obama’s now-infamous comparison of ISIS to a junior varsity basketball team, but Earnest insisted that the transcript proves he wasn’t referring specifically to ISIS. Realizing he’d be arguing with a wall at that point, Karl moved on with a quote from General Michael Flynn, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency. “He’s warning of exactly what happened,” Karl pointed out. “This is back in February. How can the president say this was an intelligence failure?

Earnest had little to offer in response, and promptly began more or less repeating himself. Eventually, he settled on declaring that “Nobody could predict … the willingness of the Iraqi security forces to stand up and fight for their own country.”

Nobody?

Or everybody except Obama?

This administration has been quite happy to throw just about anyone under the bus (except maybe Eric Holder) whenever it suits their political narrative of an error-free presidency that no one in their right mind actually believes exists. But of all agencies to throw to the lambs for slaughter, this team decided to scapegoat Intelligence? Doesn’t the Intel team have the dirt on everyone? Bad move if you ask me.

Besides, Obama had better watch out, because he’s running out of people to blame. What’s next? Will he blame his own Presidential Daily Briefing for the fact that he refused to read it?
