  • Schlocky Psaki: Lessons Were Learned From ISIS…We Just Don’t Know What Those Lessons Are

It’s becoming impossible to get through an entire week without at least one or two gaffes from the resident redhead at the State Department and/or her bespectacled blonde counterpart. Jen Psaki talked herself into a bit of a corner on Tuesday after declaring that there have been “lessons learned” from the rise of ISIS. Of course, she should have known better than to declare this…being that she has no idea what those “lessons” are. And she’s not alone. President Obama himself made it quite clear on this week’s 60 Minutes that the only lesson he learned is simply that everyone makes mistakes except him.

Unfortunately for Psaki, reporter Matt Lee isn’t anything like Steve Kroft of CBS. In fact, Lee is relentless. “Is one of them that it was perhaps unwise not to push harder for an agreement to keep a residual force in Iraq?” Lee asked. “Is that one of the lessons?

Jen was taken aback. “I think I just talked about one. I don’t think I need to go through every history component here,” she answered, while pointing to some random comments she had made previously about the Sunni awakening. I guess there were just so many lessons learned, she couldn’t possibly pick a favorite. Or something.

But that wasn’t the only grilling Ms. Psak-it-to-me got on ISIS. Here was the exchange that led to her claim of “lessons learned” in the first place:

If your actions were so effective and so aggressive, how is it that since the beginning of the year, [ISIS has] been able to seize very large swaths of territory, by some estimates a third of Iraq and Syria?” asked Reuters reporter Arshad Mohammed. “The U.S. government trained the Iraqi forces for the better part of a decade. Was that not a failure to not understand that this armed force that the U.S. government had trained at enormous taxpayer cost was not in fact capable of defending its own territory? And wasn’t that something you missed then?

    Lessons learned.

Come to think of it, Psaki is absolutely right. The Obama administration is now learning a crap-ton of lessons…from the press. Too bad they’re incapable of retaining any of them.
