You’ll Never Guess How Obama Found Out About the Armed Criminal on His Elevator

Mere hours before Secret Service Director Julia Pierson tendered her resignation on the heels of multiple security breaches — and a horrendous Capitol Hill appearance — we were assured by multiple White House officials that the president had the utmost “confidence” in her leadership. Press Secretary Josh Earnest said it, as did White House Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri (who strangely happens to be terrible at communication). So what the heck happened?

Well, as the story unfolds, it turns out that this was yet another classic Team Obama last-minute scramble. That is, if we are to take the administration at its word…because lo and behold, Mr. Earnest had a not-so-shocking revelation on Wednesday.

Asked at what point the president had been made aware that he once rode an elevator with an armed criminal who had three assaults on his record, Earnest proclaimed that Obama found out about it — wait for it — ON THE NEWS.

I can tell you that the White House first learned of the incident yesterday afternoon, shortly before it was reported by news organizations,” he said.

Alright, so “shortly before” the news reported it…but the point is taken. Once Pierson realized the elevator story was about to blow up in the media, she finally came clean about something she had been hiding from the president. And it’s yet another embarrassment to add to this list:

The real story here is the Obama team’s uncanny ability to pick awful people for just about every position in the administration. It was pointed out multiple times during the Julia Pierson hearing this week that the Director didn’t seem energetic or committed to improving the culture at the Secret Service, which begs the question of why she was there in the first place. Many have concluded that Pierson was an affirmative action hire who was intended to put a female face on the “Boys Club” agency after the Secret Service’s unfortunate prostitution scandal. Either way, she failed.

If POTUS really did find out about this one from the news — meaning Pierson didn’t inform him about it immediately afterward — she’s lucky to escape with only the loss of her job and not a more severe punishment for endangering the life of the President of the United States. The important thing is she’s gone now. Lois Lerner should probably take note of how quickly and easily she exited. Then again, I get the sense that Pierson didn’t really care about the gig in the first place.

Now comes the part where Obama replaces her with someone even worse. Maybe he’ll even bring Kathleen Sebelius back.
