  • Iowa Dog Walked 20 Blocks To The Hospital To Find Her Owner Who’s Battling Cancer

You may want to grab some tissue for this one.

Nancy Franck had already been hospitalized at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for two weeks, recovering from surgery during her battle with uterine cancer, when her husband Dale noticed the family’s white Miniature Schnauzer, Sissy, was nowhere to be found.

“I kept checking everywhere, calling out, ‘Sissy! Sissy!’” Frank told ABC News. “I was pulling my hair out.”

Turns out, Sissy had escaped and walked nearly a mile to pay Nancy a visit in the hospital.

Dale was relieved when a hospital security officer named Samantha Conrad called and told him that Sissy was safe and sound.

Security cameras captured Sissy wandering the halls of the hospital looking for her owner.

“She was on a mission that night to see her mom,” Frank said.

Franck’s daughter, Sarah Wood, picked Sissy up from the hospital and was sure to make one special stop before leaving.

“Sarah told her mom, ‘I got a surprise for you!’” Dale said. “My wife was like, ‘How’d you get her in here? Did you sneak her under your coat?’”

“Sissy’s 11 now, and we bought her when she was just about 8 weeks old. She came up to me, scratched my leg and fell asleep on my shoulder,” Dale said. “I’d say we didn’t pick her, she picked us.”

Sissy never visited the hospital before, so it’s a real mystery as to how she found her Nancy.

More good news is that Nancy’s doctors believe the majority of her cancer is gone.

What an amazing dog and an awesome story.
