Forget Pollsters; Donors, New York And D.C. Media Urge Chris Christie

While speaking before a crowd at the California Republican Party convention this past weekend in Sacramento. NJ Gov. Chris Christie told the audience, calm down, don’t rush; we have 21 months to pick a presidential candidate. Christie also urged the group not to listen to pollsters, donors, talking heads, pundits and most particularly the media in New York and Washington D.C.

Gov. Christie known for his tough talk was clearly getting straight to the matter of who will be the establishment GOP pick in the 2016 presidential election. Clearly, Christie is sharp and knows his perceived public image has a bit of tarnish from his staff’s involvement in “Bridge-gate.” He knows this makes him more of a liability to the Republican Party, as the party will most likely choose a safe candidate, but safe is not always the winning choice.

Mitt Romney was a safe candidate and was unsuccessful at his bids for the presidency. Maybe what America needs most at this deeply troubling time is a tough guy? Maybe we fight the world’s tough guys with our own? Perhaps he is too tough? Would he tell us to sit down and shut up? So, maybe a photo-op of a bare-chested Christie riding a horse through New Jersey wouldn’t strike fear into Russians, but his foreign policy might. Perhaps that is what it takes?

During his speech at the spring CAGOP convention, Christie said: we are being challenged by China. Embarrassed by Russia and seem hapless in the Middle East. Our adversaries no longer fear us, and our allies are no longer confident in us. How true is that? Especially when we are watching our close ally Israel’s PM Netanyahu being boycotted. Boycotted because they want to protect themselves from countries that wanted to wipe them off the map.

The question remains, does Christie have a chance without the donors? Probably not, and he will have to step up his campaigning to improve his numbers with voters, as Scott Walker and Rand Paul are leading him.

I have a few favorites in the race and have not decided on any one candidate, but I do like a variety to choose from. That’s what America is about, healthy competition and that is the way it should remain. It is our prerogative given to us at birth. We decide whom we want as our next president.
