  • Two Cops Shot During Ferguson Protests

Tragic events have reignited a firestorm in Ferguson.

Two St. Louis area police officers were shot in Ferguson, Mo. early Thursday morning during protests just hours after the city’s police chief agreed to resign, The New York Times reports.

The shots fired outside the police station caused panic in the mass of protesters. One officer was shot in the shoulder and one in the face. Both officers, ages 41 and 32, were in serious condition.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar gave a press conference after the shooting.

Belmar said things had started to settle down when at least three shots were fired. The officers had come from the Webster Grove Police Department and St. Louis County.

Belmar said he thinks the shots were a targeted attack.

This comes in the wake of a Department of Justice Investigation that reported systematically racist police practices by the Ferguson police and made public racist emails exchanged by city officials.
