  • 11-Year-Old Boy Charged With Manslaughter In Toddler’s Death

An 11-year-old Michigan boy has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 3-year-old boy.

Police say the 11-year-old took a gun out of his father’s closet and accidentally shot the other boy outside and is now charged with manslaughter – death by weapon aimed with intent but without malice, as well as a felony firearm, The Detroit Free Press reports.

“I cannot remember a time when we have charged someone so young with taking a life,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement. “Very unfortunately and very tragically, the alleged facts in this case demanded it.”

The Detroit boy threw the gun out the window and then picked it back up before allegedly firing the fatal shot into the boy’s face. He appeared in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Gofundme page has been created in response to the death to help pay for the funeral costs. It has raised about $2,500 so far.

“Elijah was always on the go with his incredible amount of energy and never failed to give anyone his million dollar smile,” the page reads. “He loved playing with his two older sisters and cousins. His bright smile, contagious laughter, and sweet personality will forever be missed.  He was and will always be loved by his entire family and we are extremely devastated by this tragic loss.”
