  • Check Out The Libertarian ‘Atlantis’ That’s Like ‘A Spaceship In The Ocean’

French architect Jacques Rougerie has created the design for an actual floating city … a futuristic Atlantis that he envisions as some kind of libertarian utopian dream.

Named the “City of Mériens,” it would hold roughly 7,000 individuals. City of Mériens would extend to almost 3,000 feet in length and a little over 1,600 feet wide. It would reach a depth of nearly 400 feet and tower above the surface at 200 feet.

Rougerie told Extreme Tech his City was the “best possible correlation between space and stability needs.”

Located inside the City of Mériens will be SeaOrbiters — mini exploration ships.

Each SeaOrbiter will contain a laboratory.

Like the main craft of the City of Mériens, the SeaOrbiters will also have a depth below sea-level.

The SeaOrbiter will also have a hyperbaric pressure chamber for the health and safety of those aboard.

City of Mériens, the main craft, is being called a research facility and those that will eventually take up residence are “ocean scientists.”

All of the specifics for the ship have not been fully worked out yet. Powering the City, for instance, has not been detailed. Also, it is not known at this time where exactly the City of Mériens will be constructed.

What is known, other than the relative size of the craft, is that the style of government on the City of Mériens would be based on United Nations standards. It should also be completed by 2050.
