  • MU Professor Drags Girl Out Of School By Hair For Not Wearing Hijab

A University of Missouri assistant professor is accused of grabbing a teenager and violently pulling her out of her classroom by her hair for not wearing the traditional Muslim headscarf.

Youssif Z. Omar, who is originally from Benghazi, Libya according to his Facebook profile, drove past Hickman High School in Columbia Tuesday afternoon when he noticed his 14 year old family member was not wearing a hijab and became outrage. Omar violently dragged the girl down a flight of stairs by her hair. Police say he then pulled her into his car and slapped her.

Omar was arrested at his Columbia home the next day on suspicion of felony child abuse, police said. He was released from jail on $4,500 bond.

His LinkedIn page says he worked as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia and is manager of Artifacts Journal at the University bookstore.

The school says he was a graduate student with an assistantship, and that the job ended in July.
