  • Amazon Coated NYC Subways With Nazi Memorabilia, And New Yorkers Are Pissed

Some well-placed advertising from an alternative history film is ruffling a lot of feathers in the Big Apple.

Amazon placed Nazi and Imperial Japan propaganda ads all over New York City buses and trains to bring attention to their film adaptation of the Science Fiction novel “The Man In The High Castle.” But, the ads are directing a wave of disgust and rage toward Amazon, Mashable reported Nov. 23.

“The Man In The High Castle,” is an alternative history film that envisages the Axis Powers winning World War II and partitioning the United States into sections in which both Japan and Germany control. The film then explores what American life would be like under fascist rule. (RELATED: Who Is The Poop Nazi? [UPDATED])

Amazon, who just released the episodes for the first season Nov. 20, attempted to draw interest in the show by covering NYC public transportation in Nazi advertising, but the backlash from the public was swift. (RELATED: Adolf Hitler’s Manifesto ‘Mein Kampf’ To Return To German Bookstores)

@byKatherineLam @amazon What committee did this get past in order to get made? Who looked at this and thought “Yeah that’s fine”?

@byKatherineLam @amazon I have to ride this train every day to get to and from work. Makes me very uncomfortable. Switching to the 7 for now

@byKatherineLam I’m pretty sure @amazon will regret this, if it doesn’t end quickly

I get that they’re promoting a tv show, but that subway car decked out in Nazi German and Imperial Japanese imagery really creeps me out.

Amazon was not without their defenders though.

@byKatherineLam @MentalityMag Those are not actually Imperial Japanese or Nazi symbols. Try cracking open a textbook before going full PC.

@byKatherineLam @amazon they did skip over the swastika used in the flag in the show so there was some thought about was was used
