  • ‘God Emperor Trump:’ The Resurrection of a Persecuted FB Page

From Milo Yiannopoulos getting banned from Twitter, to Facebook taking down conservative political pages, conservative voices on social media have recently been under attack. The Facebook Page “God Emperor Trump”, is one in a long list of conservative pages which were taken down, but it is back up and running thanks to a massive online backlash.

God Emperor Trump’s name is inspired by the “God Emperor of Mankind” in the video game Warhammer, who is a powerful being who protects humanity and eventually sacrifices himself for the greater good. The page has specialized in over-the-top memes promoting the Trump Campaign. In an interview, the admin of the page asked to remain anonymous, but revealed his inspiration for creating the page.

“I started the page on December 27th, 2015. Trump had an especially energetic rally in Las Vegas. That night where a group of supporters began chanting ‘Can’t Stump The Trump’ and for whatever reason that inspired me to make a page. I never expected it to get anywhere”.

However the next day he had 47 likes, and it kept growing from there, to the point where the page has been getting close to 3,000 new likes per week. As of the writing of this article, the page has over 93,000 “likes”. After the Pulse shooting in Orlando, the page’s admins started getting notifications about their posts criticizing Islam’s treatment of gay people, including a post which simply displayed the Urban Dictionary definition of “Islamophobia”. Individual admins had their personal accounts suspended for short periods of time and received warnings about posting offensive content. “We assumed this was an intimidation tactic by Facebook to get us to quit posting about Islam.”

While individual admins got personal bans, the page got a notification that it had been “unpublished” on June 16th. Despite this, the page remained active until September 2nd, when Facebook took the page off-line.

In response, the admins started a private Facebook group of conservative activists and applied  pressure to get the page re-instated. Through reaching out to larger internet personalities like Mike Cernovich and Paul Joseph Watson, as well as the Reddit group The_Donald a massive campaign of emails, tweet and Facebook posts the word got out.

After the massive backlash, Facebook changed course and lifted the suspension of the page and God Emperor Trump was back up and running in less than two days.

According to the God Emperor Trump Admin,

“while Facebook has typically taken days or even weeks to review appeals of the pages of the admins in our Facebook group, we were republished in less than 18 hours. I fully believe this is due to public pressure forcing Facebook’s hand in the matter”

He added “for too long social media has been dominated by liberal pages funded by Middle Eastern news agencies and massive liberal PACs. Our memes and videos are better because they’re made with love and passion, and our growth rate proves it.”
