What a day!
The masterful media-tamer Donald Trump had his way with the media on Friday duping the major outlets into spending about an hour and a half giving him free media coverage. In an interview on Thursday evening Mr. Trump was asked about his previous support for the “birther” movement. At the time he gave a bit of a cryptic response, saying that he’d have to respond to that at a later date, but it ended up being just a few hours later when his campaign released the following statement.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign first raised this issue to smear then-candidate Barack Obama in her very nasty, failed 2008 campaign for President. This type of vicious and conniving behavior is straight from the Clinton Playbook. As usual, however, Hillary Clinton was too weak to get an answer. Even the MSNBC show Morning Joe (Watch Video Below) admits that it was Clinton’s henchmen who first raised this issue, not Donald J. Trump…
Having successfully obtained President Obama’s birth certificate when others could not, Mr. Trump believes that President Obama was born in the United States.
However, by late Thursday evening, the Trump campaign realized that a statement from the campaign would not be enough to close the door on the “birther” controversy. By Friday morning the campaign announced that Mr. Trump would be making a statement about the issue at his Friday campaign stop. The national media flocked to his event in Washington, D.C. Friday morning hoping to hear something salacious.
This is when the true genius that is Donald Trump went on full display.
Instead of coming out and immediately giving the media what they wanted, the campaign spent half an hour parading military heroes before the media, heroes who were endorsing Donald J. Trump for president. 14 Medal of Honor recipients crossed that stage and gave their endorsement to Mr. Trump for President, and the national media carried almost all of it on their airwaves. It was a beautifully scripted Donald J. Trump advertisement, and it was carried out on all of the major media networks! FOR FREE!
About 20 minutes in, the media began getting antsy, then upset, before Mr. Trump finally sauntered out onto the stage to give this short statement about the “birther” issue.
“I am grateful for the growing support of highly respected retired generals and admirals who have been so successful in defending our country.
Her (Hillary Clinton’s) campaign of 2008 started the ‘birther’ controversy, I finished it. I finished it. President Barack Obama was born in the United States. Period. Now we all want to get back to making America strong and great again.”
And with that, it was all over.
Three little sentences.
“Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy. I finished it. President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period.
The media gave Donald Trump 90 minutes of free advertising to hear him say three little sentences about Barack Obama’s birth… and what’s even better, he blamed it all (accurately so) on Hillary Clinton.
Now we all want to get back to making America strong and great again.”
Hillary Clinton was unimpressed by the entire spectacle.
What Trump just did is a disgrace.
