  • The NFL’s BIG MISTAKE – New Study Shows Even Liberals Love the Flag

The “Flag” controversy has hurt the NFL brand. There is no disputing that when the week after week the viewing numbers are down and big time down.

American’s have shown to have visceral reaction to watching football players kneel during our nations anthem.

Lifelong fans have been burning jerseys and turning off the TV in record numbers. The word “Boycott” has never been more associated with the NFL than 2017.

It has been assumed that these fans who are so outraged they are burning their gear are all “Right Wing Trump” supporters. A new research poll shows that may not be the case.

Yes, right leaning people are outraged about the anthem protests. Most feel that though it is the players right to protest, doing it aimed at our symbol of freedom is not good.

The poll conducted by Remington Research Group provides some information that should terrify the NFL.

Even liberals love the flag and are not enjoying the NFL protest.

Remington Research Group has conducted a national public opinion survey regarding the NFL. The survey was conducted September 25th and 1,633 respondents participated.

Most Americans, 51%, say they have watched less football this year compared to the past. Of respondents who said they have watched less football this year, 69% cite their reason as players using the NFL as a stage for their political views.

That means that the fact that 51% of those questioned aren’t watching the NFL because of the kneeling and politicization of the sport. Football fans want football not politics. That could be dismissed by the NFL as the conservatives, but it’s not just them.

The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell actually has a lower “Favorable” rating than Trump.

Q1: What is your opinion of Donald Trump?

    Favorable: 46%
    Unfavorable: 47%
    No opinion: 7%

Q2: What is your opinion of Roger Goodell?

    Favorable: 12%
    Unfavorable: 36%
    No opinion: 52%

That’s bad news for the NFL and Goodell, but here’s where it gets worse for them.

In an evaluation of the research, Marc Thiessen of AEIdeas said this:

Here’s the really interesting finding about the poll: Only 46% of respondents have a favorable opinion of President Trump.

Think about that: Less than half of respondents support Trump but nearly two-thirds oppose NFL players disrespecting the flag. Indeed, 33% of self-described liberals and 57% of moderates told pollsters that NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem.

In other words, the NFL was not simply alienating conservative Trump supporters with its anthem protests last weekend — it was alienating many anti-Trump liberal football fans as well.

The NFL quite literally may be irreparable. The brand has taken a direct and self-inflicted hit.

Currently, they are not showing any sign of stopping the train from heading down the wrong track, if anything, the NFL is picking up speed.

When it finally crashes, what will be left is unknown.
