Robin Speronis of Cape Coral, Florida, has been trying to “live off the grid” for the past year and a half. She’s been relying exclusively on solar power, rain water, and a propane camping stove for utilities. But now, she’s being shut down. In a move Speronis calls “pure evil”, she’s been served with a notice by the city to vacate her “uninhabitable” home, which is in violation of city codes for not having a proper electrical or sewage system. She has also admitted to tapping into the city’s sewers without paying for access.
But that’s not the only reason her “off the grid” experiment has faced some setbacks. According to The Cape Coral Daily Breeze:
“In June 2011, she plead no content to larceny, and was sentenced to 10 years of state probation and ordered to pay $32,000 in restitution. In January 2012, she had her real estate license revoked following a second complaint that she had not returned a $3,500 deposit following a failed condo sale.”
But Robin is determined to continue her minimalistic lifestyle, insisting that she can live without a sewage system in a “sanitary fashion”.
Well played, Speronis. Well played.
