You have to hand it to the cops in India for creativity. When 28 year old Damu Gupta stole someone’s gold chain while aboard a train from Mumbai headed to Gondia, he likely didn’t originally intend to eat it.
But that’s exactly what happened, after the victim, Dr. Sheetal Kamble, began screaming, and other passengers rushed to help. Gupta was promptly arrested, but without physical proof of the crime, police were going to have to think outside the box. It wasn’t until Christmas Day, after countless scans and x-rays (and claims of innocence by Gupta), that authorities located the gold chain inside Gupta’s abdomen via an ultrasound. So, the coppers did the only thing they could do: use a natural laxative.Over the course of 24 hours, Gupta was fed 96 bananas, until the mysterious gold chain finally made a reappearance. Police are currently working to deliver the chain back to its owner, though one might question why he’d actually want it returned at this point, considering where it’s been.
No word on what Gupta’s sentence will be, but the good news is that he won’t have to worry about a Vitamin B deficiency for the next 4 months or so.
