Thayer says the bill would benefit both political parties in his state. “What if the Democratic nominee for President decides to choose John Yarmuth to be their running mate?” Thayer asked. “He would probably want to run for Congress and Vice President at the same time.”
WDRB reports that Thayer has been “approached by Paul’s staff about the legislation and has spoken several times with Kentucky’s freshman senator about it.”
“I think it’s not necessarily about Sen. Paul,” Thayer said. “Though his circumstances are what’s driving this; it’s really about if anyone of any party from Kentucky who is a member of Congress wants to run for re-election and seek the vice presidency or presidency, making sure that Kentuckians have a voice in that election.”
