• Rep. Keith Ellison: I ‘Wish’ The Democratic Party Would Come Out Against the Second Amendment

Maher: common-sense gun safety is bullsh*t

Last night on his HBO show Real Time Bill Maher said, “I never hear anybody in the Democratic party say they [are against the Second Amendment]. But they say, ‘I am also a strong supporter.'”

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a guest on Maher’s panel pushed back saying, “You have got to check out the progressive caucus. We have come out very strong for common-sense gun safety rules. I mean, 27 children were mowed down. Isn’t that enough for us? One of our colleagues, [former Congresswoman] Gabby Giffords, shot in the face.”

“Common-sense gun safety is bullsh*t,” Maher shouted. “Why doesn’t your party come out against the Second Amendment? It’s the problem, ” he added.

“I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would,” Ellison hollered in response.

Aside from a sitting member of Congress displaying open hostility to the Constitution he swore to uphold, let’s pause here to see the same anti-Second Amendment Maher proudly proclaim his love for guns:

That’s right. Bill Maher is a huge hypocrite.

Bill Maher owns two guns and his home has a 12-foot wall, a security system, and a dog… and he wants to take everybody else’s guns away except his?

Oh, and the dude also has millions to afford his own armed guards.

Maher also misrepresented the National Rifle Organization’s (NRA) opposition to President Obama’s now-stalled US Surgeon General nominee Dr. Vivek Murthy. Maher said that Senate Democrats are weak on guns, eerily similar to Republicans on the Second Amendment, and too easy to cower at the behest of the NRA’s massive gun lobby.

“The problem is that Democrats love guns, too. That when Mitch McConnell did that and held the gun up, here’s what his opponent, the Democrat, tweeted. She said: ‘Someone tell Team Mitch that’s not the way to hold a gun.’ There she is (on the monitor). ‘Kentucky women do it better,” Maher said.

But Vivek Murthy’s radical opposition to gun rights is why his nomination as Surgeon General was a non-starter. As DailySurge contributor Cloakroom Confidential notes, Murthy has advocated laws that would increase research for data-tracking of guns:

Opponents argue that an anti-gun activist in that position will allow Murthy to use the surgeon general office to propagandize the American people that gun ownership is a national health crisis.  Murthy believes this to be true, so why would senators vote to install an anti-Second Amendment activist into the position of the highest ranking public relations health care official?

Bill Maher either doesn’t understand this or he does and just choses to misrepresent his opponents message. Either way, it’s highly unlikely that Vivek Murthy will become America’s next Surgeon General. But I can promise you that Bill Maher will continue to reign as one of America’s biggest douchebags.
