Strange Trend: Gadgets Becoming More Valuable Than Life Itself

What would you rush to save in an emergency?

In the span of one week, I’ve noticed a rather startling trend of human beings subjecting themselves to injury and, in some cases, death…just to save their favorite digital toy.

On Thursday, there was the man who ran into his burning house to retrieve his cell-phone. He died.
On Monday, a 14-year old girl was struck by a freight train while trying to rescue her phone. She died.
On Tuesday, a couple was hospitalized after attempting to save their flat-screen TV from a fire. They fared slightly better.

What is happening in America? Are we seriously placing a higher value on our electronic gizmos than our own existence? Am I the only one disturbed by this trend? Or are we actually just witnessing a new survival of the fittest? Sound off with your thoughts below. But if your house is on fire, I might recommend that you wait until later to comment.
