Dem Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut has been spending the past week going to war with the Metro-North rail, after reports that the MTA has had 139 violations and $552,000 worth of fines throughout the past 10 years. In other words, he’s demanding safety for commuters, and he’s demanding it now.
…a context which makes the above video a heck of a lot more entertaining. “Safety, as you know, is paramount,” proclaims Milford Mayor Ben Blake, just as a train comes barreling at Senator Blumenthal and almost succeeds in knocking him over. He’s darn lucky his visual aids didn’t bite the dust.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’m thinking you shouldn’t be standing past the safety lines if you want tweets like this to be taken seriously:
Rail operators must strive for perfection when it comes to safety—125,000 daily commuters on Metro-North’s New Haven line deserve that much.

Then again, perhaps he was just trying to teach us a lesson about rail safety. Or not.
