Yes, I’ve been on the Bernie Beat for a few weeks now, but I’m happy to see that others are hopping aboard. The truth is that this Vermont Senator is a phony and an opportunist. While he sits on his perch as the Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee, he serves an important function in Congress and could be instrumental in fixing the problems at the VA…if he really wanted to. Instead, because he’s too frightened that the shocking revelations about what’s been going on at VA hospitals may prompt some to point the finger at him, Bernie has spent the past month downplaying any negative news that’s come out about the scandal, and has even attempted to slow-walk the investigations. Now, we finally have the chief of a veterans group calling Slimy Sanders out on his hypocrisy and classlessness, and he did it on MSNBC, no less. Appearing on The Rachel Maddow Show, Paul Rieckhoff, the head of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), called Bernie an “apologist” for the VA, and pulled plenty of punches at the other Democrats who have been less than forthcoming throughout the past few weeks.
“Needless to say, I don’t agree,” responded Senator Sanders during an appearance immediately afterwards on the same show. He then proceeded to spend the rest of his time insisting that the VA system is an overall good one, and that we shouldn’t “throw the baby out with the bathwater.”
I can see why he’d feel that way, since, to follow up his own analogy, Bernie would probably be the “baby.”
