• Charlie Rangel Tries His Hand at Stand-Up Comedy (Sitting Down)

    Tee-Hee

Are you ready for something just flat-out bizarre? I know that’s nothing too out-of-the-ordinary when Charlie Rangel is involved, but this stunt was just…weird.

Asked for an opening statement during this week’s Democratic primary debate for his House seat, Charlie pretended to take a phone call instead. And what transpired–well, you need to see it to believe it. Witness Rangel taking some passive-aggressive comedic swipes at State Senator Adriano Espaillat, Reverend Michael Walrond, and more…all as he holds his cell phone up to his ear. An interesting tactic for tackling a debate that’s supposed to be about issues, but the infamous ethics-plagued Harlem Congressman doesn’t exactly have much to brag about these days…so a Henny Youngman routine is about as much as we can expect from him.

The longer you watch this, the more you start to wonder whether Charlie actually believes he’s talking to someone. I definitely wouldn’t put it past him.
