• College Kids Discover $40,000 Hidden Inside Their $20 Couch

    Score

These New Paltz college roommates are some good eggs. After buying a used couch for the bargain price of 20 bucks at a local thrift shop, one of them discovered 700 bucks in it…which prompted them to search for more. By the time they finished excavating the entire sofa, they had found a whopping $40,000 smackeroos tucked inside!

But they also found an envelope with a woman’s name on it. That woman turned out to be a 91-year old widow from upstate New York who had hidden the cash in the cushions. The Good Samaritan students promptly did the ethical thing and returned the funds to her. No word yet on whether she gave them a reward…or how the heck the woman managed to forget that she hid all that dough. When you’re 91, I’d imagine that happens sometimes.

This story inspired me to explore my own recliner, but all I found inside was a Cheez-It and my missing Wiimote.

The moral of the tale? The Salvation Army is an AWESOME place to shop.
