ANOTHER secret recording of disgraced NBA Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been released, with Sterling explaining to his listener he can’t be racist becaue he is Jewish.
The unconfirmed tape — apparently recorded clandestinely by another of Sterling’s “friends” — was obtained by Radar Online and sure sounds like Sterling. The unidentified caller is apparently angry over Sterling’s anti-black rant to girlfriend V. Stiviano, and accuses Sterling of being a racist.“You think I’m a racist?” Sterling asks in astonishment. “You think I have anything in the world but love for everybody? You don’t think that! You know I’m not a racist!”
“I grew up in East L.A.,” the Clippers owner explains plaintively. “East L.A., you die to get out of there. I got out of East L.A. I was president of the high school there — and I’m a Jew! And 50 percent of the people there were black, and 40 percent were Hispanic . . . So people must have had a good feeling for me.”
“I mean, how can you think I’m a racist, knowing me all those years?” he says sadly. “How can you be in this business and be a racist? Do you think I tell a coach to get white players, or to get the best player he can get?”
“I mean, I don’t expect anything from anybody, but I do from you!” Sterling cries. “It breaks my heart that Magic Johnson, a guy that I respect so much, wouldn’t stand up and say, ‘Well let’s get the facts! Let’s get him and talk to him!’ Nobody tried. Nobody!”
Sterling recently cancelled appearances on both Barbara Walter’s ABC program and Anderson Cooper’s show on CNN. He has yet to make any public statement regarding the controversy. The NBA owner also made it clear he has no plans to go along with the league’s plans to divest him of the Clippers. “You can’t force someone to sell property in America!” he said. “I’m a lawyer, that’s my opinion.”
