ABC’s Jon Karl couldn’t get White House press secretary Jay Carney to answer repeated questions about whether President Barack Obama still has confidence in embattled Veteran Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki at Thursday’s White House briefing.
“Does the president have confidence in Secretary Shinseki?” Karl asked.
Carney dodged Karl’s myriad questions about Obama’s earlier remarks where he cited Shinseki’s previous accomplishments. Carney even accused Karl of “wordplay.” “Jon, the president addressed this question from the podium,” Carney said.
During the questioning, Karl pointed out that Obama did not directly say anything about his confidence in Shinseki. “He wasn’t asked directly does he have ‘confidence’ in Sec. Shinseki,” Karl pressed.
It’s getting harder for Carney to duck and dodge the questions that Karl and others are asking. Sec. Shinseki has failed to clean up the mess going on at VA facilities across the country. Hell, even Congressional Democrats—including Sens. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), Mark Udall (D-Colo.), John Walsh (D-Mont.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Al Franken (D-Minn.), have joined Republicans in calling for Shinseki’s firing.
