Few people love the sound of their own voice more than Bill Maher, and that’s why “The View” is a perfect show for him. He’s able to spout off the same tired jokes about Republicans that he’s known for on his HBO show, except in this case, he’s showered with love and praise from an audience full of daytime housewives instead of late night subversives. He’s always treated like some sort of political genius, yet most of his observations are pretty standard-fare liberal screeds disguised as comedy. Usually, Maher seems to prefer making people feel uncomfortable instead of actually earning a laugh — probably because that’s easier — but most of his core audience (including the audience of “The View”) already agrees with him. So he’s pretty much just preaching to the already-converted, and he’s not even bothering to be creative about it. I don’t believe anyone should be censored, but I do believe that someone who purports to be a comedian should probably be funny once in a while. Instead, what we get here is a bunch of predictable liberal crap: the Tea Party is full of racists, Obamacare is awesome, Karl Rove is a closeted homosexual (and a murderer), the Second Amendment should be completely repealed, and Barack saved the economy. Bill also got a pass here when he referred to Obama as a “boy,” and then quickly apologized. Pardon me while I take a nap. I thought there were supposed to be some jokes somewhere.
