Back in 2007, President George W. Bush said, “the fight in Iraq is part of a broader struggle that’s unfolding across the region.” Bush argued then that if the United States was to pull back and even completely withdraw troops from Iraq, it would cause a chain reaction that would result in terrorists moving their safe haven from Afghanistan to Iraq.
Bush also said a complete US troop withdrawal would allow terrorists to continue to commit “mass killings on a horrific scale” without fear of repercussions.
