Far be it for me to be shocked by any Democrat rushing to distance him or herself from Barack Obama in the year 2014, but it really doesn’t get any more blatant than this. Earlier today, Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) sat down with MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow, where he all but laughed at the Obama administration’s latest idea — floated most prominently by Secretary of State John Kerry — to work together with Iran on that whole rather disastrous Iraq thing. I say “all but laughed” because he simultaneously asserted that Obama is “grasping at straws” while strangely calling it a “smart” move. Huh?
Moments later, Engel clarified: “If we’re looking towards Iran, I think we’ve sort of reached a new low, unfortunately.”
He’s right; that strategy is even more desperate than Joseph Robinette Biden’s classic old plan to divide Iraq into three parts. Judging from the way things are shaping up over there, that may actually be happening as we speak. I never thought I’d see the day when Biden’s battle plan looked like the best choice. But when Barack Obama is the captain of the ship, anything can happen.
