• This Dude Got Stuck in an Elevator That Rocketed to the Roof

    A not-so excellent adventure

Can you imagine this 20 seconds of terror?

A 31-year old Chile man was seriously injured after entering an elevator that seemed to have a mind of its own. A closed-circuit TV camera captured the horrifying moments, as José Vergara Acevedo entered on the first floor, and even before he managed to push a button, the elevator began to rise with the doors still open. José then started to panic and frantically pressed all of the buttons, but nothing seemed to stop the out-of-control elevator. It rose to the 31st floor in a whopping 15 seconds, and only stopped when it hit the ceiling.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene, and they quickly transported Acevedo to Santa Maria Clinic, where he was treated for head and leg injuries. Reasons for the malfunctioning elevator have not been given yet, but it may have something to do with the fact that Tower B of the Bustamante Park complex that it was located in had only been completed 8 months prior.

José is damn lucky if you ask me. Imagine if this would have happened:

Well, okay. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad after all.
