• Talking to Terrorists: Welcome to Obama’s America

The Taliban's open season on our citizens begins

With all that’s gone on in the past couple of days, even casual news observers have got to be scratching their heads and wondering what’s become of this country. In Obama’s latest show of disrespect for the role of Congress, he decided to take it upon himself to essentially trade five hardened Guantanamo terrorists for one U.S. POW being held by the Taliban, Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl–a POW who, along with his own father, may have already been radicalized. That means there are now six (or even seven) fresh individuals on the loose who could spell danger for America, and there’s a good chance we didn’t get anything in return for it.

But when you want real White House spin on a Sunday, who do you call? Susan Rice, of course! The so-called National Security Adviser hit the circuit yesterday, repeatedly insisting that Obama wasn’t breaking the law by refusing to notify Congress of the prisoner “transfer” from Gitmo. Instead, she claimed that there was an urgency related to Bergdahl’s health–“urgent and acute,” she called it–that suddenly required the president to act:

“Urgent and acute”? Forgive me for sounding insensitive, but there’s really been no word on Bergdahl’s condition at all. Sure, his health has been deteriorating–but he’s been held captive for FIVE YEARS. Why the sudden interest on Obama’s part? As far as I can tell, this move was the second prong in a multi-teared strategy crafted in order to distract the news media from his failures at the VA. The first phase of Operation Distraction came when Jay Carney resigned on Friday.

Apart from the obvious politics and classic “Obama Shell Game” that’s being played here, the president’s interest in wheeling and dealing with terrorists is nothing new. Here he was last year, defending his administration’s groundbreaking idea to try and broker piece with radical Islamists:

Wow. Taliban Talks. So that’s where we’re at in the year 2014. What’s next? Will Obama let al Qaeda play target practice with their national monument of choice in Washington? Perhaps he’ll send a complimentary fleet of aircraft to Hezbollah, so they can fly over here and do as they please! Or better yet, e-mail a copy of our nuclear defense codes to the Muslim Brotherhood, so that all may share! So many options, and yet, so little time left for this hoser we call our president. Still, two years is more than enough time for him to just let ALL of the Guantanamo detainees free. I mean, he did campaign on closing the facility down, so it would only make sense that complete terrorist freedom was the plan all along. Thanks, Barry!
