Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) told local reporters that he is working with the Obama administration in an effort to find a way to deal with the tens of thousands of illegal immigrant children pouring into the U.S.-Mexico border.
At the press briefing Wednesday Patrick said, “My inclination is to remember what happened when a ship full of Jewish children tried to come to the United States in 1939 and the United States turned them away, and many of them went to their deaths in Nazi concentration camps.”
Yes. You read that correctly.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, Patrick doubled down, saying “I think we are a bigger-hearted people than that as Americans, and certainly as residents of Massachusetts. … Now getting from there to a practical solution, I have not done yet. I’m trying to think that through.”
I don’t think Deval Patrick knows what thinking is.I understand wanting to do the right thing for the children who were lied to and shipped to America. And I can even understand Patrick trying to say and do whatever is politically expedient. But comparing the deportation of people who are in the country illegally to the Holocaust is absolutely, positively insane.
