The Arizona Republican Senator says America is basically giving Russian president Vladimir Putin “less than a slap on the wrist” for his country’s alleged role in the shot down Malaysian airliner.
“The point here is that Vladimir Putin is literally getting away with murder,” a fiery McCain told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Tuesday. “I mean literally, and we are doing very little in response.”
McCain also said that the response by the U.S. and European governments to the tragedy is representative of the West’s consistent inability to address Russia’s annexation of Ukraine.
“For us not to point the finger of blame exactly where it belongs — there’s ample, overwhelming evidence, and not only because of this particular act, but because of Vladimir Putin’s continued aggression and fomenting of aggression in Ukraine,” McCain said.
Two hundred ninety eight passengers and crew died when Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 17 was shot down.
