These days, everyone is trying to outdo one another on YouTube in order to get hits that don’t really amount to anything other than self-esteem boosters. Back in February, this kid decided that his claim to fame would be a video selfie of him cruising down the freeway. The “twist”? He was driving while sitting in the passenger’s seat. It’s pretty much a guaranteed way of endangering yourself as well as everyone else on the road, and it’s incredibly stupid. To top it off, he moved his camera around with at least one hand, meaning that he probably only had one hand on the wheel, if that.
Next, this obvious Mensa candidate uploaded the shocking video to YouTube, and was probably surprised to discover that no one really cared…except for Spanish police. They put the word out on Twitter with a link to the video, asking if any citizens knew who the guy was. Unlucky for him, Spain’s Policia Nacional has nearly one million Twitter followers, and it took only 13 hours to identify the resident idiot.
This week, the sentence came down: a conviction for reckless driving, six months in the slammer, and his driver’s license was taken away for one year.
It’s a good thing he enjoys sitting in the passenger seat, because that’s all he’ll be doing for a while.
