• Amid Long Wait Times And Staff Shortages, Nevada VA Employees Bagged Big Bonuses

From 2011 through 2013, a grand total of bonuses paid to Southern Nevada VA employees came to $650,954.

These bonuses were paid just as everything from construction delays, to long wait times, to critical staff shortages, were taking place at VA offices across the country, according to ABC 13.

“It all makes me mad,” said Jon Fennych, commander at the Veterans of Foreign Wars North Las Vegas Memorial Post #10047.  “I could not believe the amount of monies that was spent in the bonus arena and I was appalled.”

ABC 13 requested the bonus amounts of local Veterans Affairs facilities through a Federal Freedom of Information Act request. Their research found that Southern Nevada VA employees were collecting “more money to more people each year.”

“In 2011, it was nearly $193,000 for 135 employees. In 2012, more than $205,000 for 137 people. Last year, 154 employees shared more than $252,000,” they reported.

In a statement, the VA said it “has suspended all senior executive performance awards” for 2014.

Yesterday, President Obama signed a 16.3 billion VA overhaul bill into law.
