• Here’s What Israel’s Iron Dome Protection System Looks Like on Live Television

CNN’s Anderson Cooper got a bit of a shock while reporting from the Israel-Gaza border this week, as he had the rare opportunity to see Israel’s Iron Dome program functioning up close.

Iron Dome is described by its creator as a “mobile all-weather air defense system” that’s capable of intercepting and destroying short-range rockets and shells before they can inflict casualties. This wonder of technology has been up and running since 2011, and it has intercepted hundreds of rockets during that time. In the next few years, Iron Dome will be expanded on as part of a larger missile defense system is constructed.

It’s an amazing thing to behold, and you can see that Anderson was visibly startled by the sounds of those interceptions.
