• Even This Democrat Understands the Enemy America is Facing

I’ve always thought of Congressman Eliot Engel as kind of a nutball. Daily Surge’s own Jason Mattera has even had a run-in or two with the New York Democrat, and the footage he returned with didn’t do much to improve my opinion of the guy. But lately, I’ve found him to be making (*gasp*) a whole heck of a lot of sense. Clearly, Engel is a lot more thoughtful than his epic 1970’s mustache would have you think.

First, it was his passionate defense of Israel in recent months. And now, his assessment of ISIS:

I understand that my colleagues are war weary. I’m war weary. I understand the American people are war weary. But I think doing nothing would invite something very similar that happened to my city, New York City, on that fateful day of September 11, 2001,” said Engel of the terrorist group. “If we do nothing, ISIS will plot and plan, and we’ll have many more September 11ths in the United States, in Europe, in the Middle East,” he added.

The congressman warned that the current state of Iraq and Syria looks frighteningly similar to the conditions that were in place when we “took our eye off the prize” and allowed Afghanistan to explode into a terrorist wonderland.

My how the tables have turned since the days of George W. Bush and an angry pool of Democrats who wanted nothing more than to withdraw completely from every foreign nation around the globe.

Then again, midterm elections are less than two months away…and I’m pretty sure Congressman Engel wants to hold onto that seat of his.

Whatever the reason may be, it would behoove President Obama to take some notes from Engel on defining the intentions of the enemy. You can watch his full remarks above.
