• Grand Slam! Introducing the Denny’s $300 Breakfast Platter

If you thought Denny’s was low-rent, shame on you. Proving that the restaurant chain is more than just a spot for stoners with the munchies to grab some Moons Over My Hammy at 3AM, Denny’s has just popped the cork at its very first location in a ritzy section of Manhattan…and they’ve made some, shall we say, different considerations this time around.

At this particular Denny’s location inside the Financial District (which just opened on Friday), you can get yourself a very special “Slam” for 300 smackers. It includes an expensive bottle of Dom Perignon Cru Champagne to accompany the classic Grand Slam breakfast. Also on the menu? $11 cocktails that you can order right along with your hash browns and bacon.

Yep, Denny’s is moving on up. “The folks that work downtown in the Financial District near our restaurant are a higher-end clientele, so we put together a craft cocktail program, but at the same time, we didn’t want to forget the fact that we are a Denny’s at the end of the day, so we figured, why not have a little fun with it,” said franchise owner Rahul Marwah of the souped-up Slam. “We thought the Grand Cru Slam was a fun way to kind of do something that was appropriate for the community, and why not have a laugh while you’re looking at our bar menu?

Marwah got special permission from the head honchos at Denny’s to add a unique touch to this particular franchise. When you visit it, you’ll notice a brick facade, copper-stamped ceiling, and rich, dark woods…a far cry from your average green and yellow standard. “I thought we would stick out like a sore thumb if we looked like the average Denny’s,” he explained.

But is it an example of putting lipstick on a pig? That’s for you to decide. In the meantime, I’ll be munching on a Grand Slamwich™ along with a nice Pinot…
