• John Kerry: America Is Not At War With ISIS

In an interview today with CNN reporter Elise Labott, Secretary of State John Kerry said America is not at war with ISIS. “What we are doing is engaging in a very significant counter-terrorism operation,” he explained.

“Is the United States at war with ISIS?” Labott asked. “Because it sure sounds, from the president’s speech, that we are.”

“I think that’s the wrong terminology,” Kerry responded. “What we are doing is engaging in a very significant counter-terrorism operation. And it’s going to go on for some period of time.”

“If somebody wants to think about it as being a war with ISIL, they can do so,” he continued. “But the fact is, it’s a major counter-terrorism operation that will have many different moving parts.”

Sounding rather unconvinced, CNN anchor Jake Tapper said “Dropping bombs on a sovereign nation and offering to arm and train rebels who not only oppose ISIS, but oppose the regime that ostensibly rules Syria—to some people, that might sound a lot like war”

It is worth noting that Kerry does believe climate change is the biggest threat facing humanity, not ISIS. He also thinks that the Bible commands America to save Muslims from Global Warming, not ISIS.

Kerry’s rhetorical jiujitsu came just as U.S. Department of State spokeswoman Marie Harf said she would not use the term “war on terrorism” when referring to America’s efforts to secure its global interests.

Harf was asked by a reporter today if the term terrorism was “something that’s out of the lexicon now of the U.S. government’s comments on what’s happening.”

“It’s certainly not how I would refer to our efforts,” she replied.

This reminds me of some wise words that Dr. Ben Carson recently uttered. He said that until Obama “is actually able to utter the words we are at war with these Arabs, I don’t know if he will be able to do what is necessary. If he can’t even utter the words how will he actually be able to execute the action?”

When the doctor’s right, he’s right.
