It looks like Hillary Clinton has some real competition on her hands!
That is, if by “competition” you mean a white-haired 73-year old socialist from the state most popular for giving us maple syrup. Bernie Sanders sat down with NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, which was hilarious in itself, given that Chuck Todd’s highly touted debut episode as moderator featured a Barack Obama interview…and he followed it up one week later with this guy. All of the classic Bernie buzzwords were there, from “millionaires and billionaires” to The Koch Brothers. But what was most revealing was the fact that Senator Socialism really does seem like he may challenge Hillary for the Democrat mantle in 2016.“I am thinking about running for president, and the issue of whether you run as an independent, with the necessity of setting up a fifty-state infrastructure, running as a Democrat, that’s something that I’m looking at,” Bernie explained to Chuck. As for dethroning Queen Hillary, “I don’t know that Hillary is running,” he said. “I don’t know what she’s running on. I know that the middle class in this country is collapsing. I know that the gap between the very, very rich and everybody else is growing wider. There’s profound anger at the greed on Wall Street, anger at the media establishment. The American people want real change. I have been taking on the big money interests and special interests all of my political life … the issue is not Hillary.”
Well then, if that’s the case, why doesn’t he just run as a Socialist? There’s no need for Sanders to try and moderate his image by running as a Democrat OR an independent if he doesn’t seriously think Hillary is the left’s only realistic option. But I’m probably putting the cart in front of the Marxist horse here, as Bernie Boy hasn’t even launched his inevitable “exploratory committee” yet.
And hey, even if he decides not to run after all, I’m sure Elizabeth Warren would love to have him on her ticket. What better way to destroy America completely than with two of the most radical voices in modern politics teaming up to do it together?
At any rate, I’m hoping Bernie does enter the fray, since it will be a great opportunity to remind America of this classic exchange, courtesy of Daily Surge’s own Jason Mattera:
