• Terror in Ottawa: The ISIS Dream is Realized

Major kudos to Christopher Dickey here. Despite being the foreign editor for the left-leaning Daily Beast and delivering this assessment on none other than MSNBC, he explained in just one minute why it’s essentially irrelevant whether the terror attack up in Canada was officially sanctioned by ISIS or not: it was a direct reaction to what’s in the ISIS “playbook.”

There was actually an address to the followers of ISIS that was made on September 21st, where the guy, Abu Mohammad al-Adnani, who is a spokesman for ISIS, said ‘Look, do anything you can any way you can to attack,'” Dickey told MSNBC’s Jose-Diaz Balart. “Where? In Canada, France, United Kingdom, United States, in Australia. If you can’t get a gun, if you can’t get a bomb, lure people aside and bash in their heads with a rock, run them over with a car, do whatever it takes. That’s exactly what ISIS is asking its sympathizers to do.”

Bingo. “Lone wolf” or not, this is precisely what ISIS was hoping would happen.

I think there’s a mistake in a lot of analysis that’s going on … to find some direct causative chain of command that links these people in Canada to some mastermind in Raqqa or in Mosul, in ISIS territory. That’s not the way it is going to go. But ISIS is trying to inspire followers wherever they can find them,” Dickey explained.

The point is well taken. We can sit around and attempt to parse language over whether ISIS is technically “here,” but it won’t much matter if people are already becoming radicalized and are determined to mow others down. We often spend so much time trying to rule things out in the interest of being politically correct that we afford evil individuals more time to plot their evil deeds.

Senator John McCain said this morning that he would support laws in America like Canada already has on the books, which would allow us to seize the passports of homegrown terror suspects. While that might not have prevented what happened in Ottawa on Tuesday, it would certainly be a good start in preventing self-radicalized Americans from heading overseas to join up with ISIS, such as these three American teenage girls attempted to do.

While I certainly hate to admit this, even Chris Matthews gets it:

I just wonder, when the president of the United States says ‘senseless violence’ — this is very purposeful violence. This is political,” Matthews said last night. “It’s not senseless. It may be horrible and ruthless, but it does have a point.”

    So yeah, that just happened.

When Chris Matthews is more aware of the terrorist threat to our homeland than the President of the United States, it’s definitely time for a shot of tequila.
