Chuck Schumer believes he has the key to the Democrat party’s salvation in 2016…and it lies in trumpeting big government.
The New York Democrat spoke at the National Press Club, where he encouraged his party to be honest about who they are. “In order to win in 2016, Democrats must embrace government, not run away from it,” he asserted. “Ultimately, the public knows in its gut that a strong and active government is the only way to reverse the middle-class decline and help revive the American dream.”Schumer admits that voters lost faith in the abilities of government to get things done for them as a result of Obamacare, border security, Ebola, and the VA scandal. But he thinks his party’s problems lie exclusively in the marketing of its message, rather than the policies themselves.
Republicans will surely welcome Chuck’s strategy. Trying to sell “big government” as an idea should make for an interesting debate about all that President Obama has wrought throughout his two terms.
